| STEP 1: Crumble mawa into fine granules. |

| STEP 2: Cook mawa in a thick-bottomed pan, stirring continuously till it is completely mented and has a thick sauce like consistency. |

| STEP 3: Stir in sugar till it is completely dissolved and mawa is cooked. |

| STEP 4: Grease a tray with oil and keep aside. |
 |
| STEP 5: Remove half of this mixture and pour into the greased tray. Spread the mawa mixture evenly on the tray. Let it cool. |

| STEP 6: Keep the remaining mixture on a low flame. Add the cocoa powder and mix well. |
 |
| STEP 7: Pour the cocoa mixture over the earlier mixture. Spread the mixture evenly. Let it cool completely. |
 |
| STEP 8: Cut into square pieces and serve. You may coat the chocolate burfi with silver leaves (chandi ka vark), if desired. |
