   Indian Vegetarian Recipes - Dals / Legumes
 
 
 
  Lemon Dal  
  (Split red lentils flavored with lemon juice)  
 
INGERIDENTS
Masoor daal 100 gms
Fresh ginger roots (finely chopped) 1 tspn
Fresh garlic (crushed) 1 tspn
chilli powder 1 tspn
Turmeric 1/2 tspn
Water 2 cups
Lemon juice 3tblspn
Green chillies 2
Fresh coriander leaves a few
Salt to taste
   
For the seasoning:  
Oil 150 ml
whole garlic cloves 4
Dried red chillies 6
White cumin seeds 1 tspn
 
Lemon Dal, Split red lentils flavored with lemon juice
 
  METHOD  
 
STEP 1: Rinse the masoor daal and place in a large saucepan
STEP 2: Add the ginger, garlic, chilli powder and turmeric. Stir in 1-1/4 cups of water and bring to a boil over a medium heat with the lid left slightly ajar until the daal is soft enough to be mashed
STEP 3: Mash the daal well. Add the salt, lemon juice and the remaning is mix well.
STEP 4: Add the green chillies and fresh coriander leaves to the daal and set aside.
STEP 5: To make the seasoning heat oil in a pen. Add the garlic, red chillies and whith cumin seeds and fry about 1 minute. Turn off the heat. Pour this seasoning over the daal.
STEP 6: Transfer to a serving dish and serve hot.
